Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham claims his mum has been reduced to tears.
Abraham missed the crucial penalty in the shootout a month to offer Liverpool victory in Istanbul and was subjected to abuse on social media.
“I remember speaking to my mom, she was psychological, she had been in tears,” 21-year-old Abraham told CNN.
A Chelsea spokesman said the club was”disgusted” with all the”abhorrent” posts.
Back in August, Abraham’s spot-kick after it had ended 2-2 after extra-time to secure a 5-4 shootout victory for the Champions League champions was maintained out by Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian.
Abraham, who has given scored four times in Chelsea’s past two matches, added:”It is obviously not pleasant, seeing your kid getting abused. My mother was thinking,’Why him?’
“For me, I am a strong character, it doesn’t impact me too, but it might affect people who do not have my personality.
“I was sat in the changing room right after the game and went on my cell phone. I was not going to shy away from the situation, although I did have any supportive messages. The other side isn’t wonderful to listen to.
“I went through a lot of emotion after the penalty neglect. I had experience of taking fines last year . Everyone misses penalties. To miss the penalty… I had been shattered and I had a whole lot of abuse after.”
Abraham, who has made two appearances for England, praised the service he’s received from his team-mates, his team and his manager.
“Frank Lampard always had his arm across my shoulder lifting up me, the boys as well, it was just like I never overlooked with the way that they encouraged me and lifted me that is exactly what I needed,” added Abraham.
