Solheim Cup stories: Catriona Matthew secures 2013 victory


Catriona Matthew will hope to direct Europe into Solheim Cup success again this week, six years on from procuring their latest success.
Matthew showcased on three winning sides during her nine Solheim Cup appearances as a player, with the Scot famously claiming the point to secure Europe’s triumph in 2013.
Europe maintained a two-point advantage after the opening day and secured a clean sweep in the Saturday fourballs to take a 10.5-5.5 direct to the Sunday singles, by which Matthew confronted Gerina Piller.
Anna Nordqvist halved the opening match of the day, while wins for Charley Hull, Carlota Ciganda along with Caroline Hedwall – who all feature from the 2019 facet – obtained Liselotte Neumann’s staff and guaranteed the prize would go back to Europe.
Matthews then registered the moment that was winning holing a to claim.
Europe would go on to win the competition by a record-breaking margin, asserting seven and a half of the points that are available on the afternoon to finish a persuasive 18-10 success.
