Mayo’s Ger Cafferkey retires from intercounty football


Mayo’s Ger Cafferkey has declared his retirement from football.
The Ballina Stephenites man played with the Connacht county for 11 years, making his championship debut out to New York in 2009.
Through the decade, he also became a key member of their negative, shoring up the defence.
During his career, he picked up an All-Star award in 2012, and won six Connacht Championship awards.
He becomes the Mayo player to retire following the decision of Andy Moran fourteen days ago to Dublin, in the wake of the All-Ireland semi-final defeat.
