Formula 1 says it’s an agreement in principle with all the owners of this Miami Dolphins NFL arena to hold a race in the Florida city from 2021.
It’s the newest development in an attempt US firm Liberty Media, by F1’s owners .
The proposal features a brand new track layout looping in Miami that is central around the Dolphins’ Hard Rock Stadium.
Ahead of the race occurs, including acceptance by Miami-Dade County organisers face a series of hurdles.
There has been local opposition to holding a grand prix from the city.
A previous effort by F1, that comprised a course in downtown Miami that went into back and Miami Port over a bridge, has foundered after concerns regarding interruptions to business brought on by the building of the race trail.
The proposal that is new is all on land owned by Stephen Rosso, the owner of American soccer franchise Miami Dolphins. As the event resembles the Ceasar’s Palace Grand Prix which has been held twice in a car park of their casino in vegas in 1981 and’82.
In their statement, Tom Garfinkel and F1 commercial boss Sean Bratches, the first executive of Hard Rock Stadium, emphasised the financial advantages.
“Having an estimate annual effect of over $400m and 35,000 room nights, the F1 Miami Grand Prix is going to be an economic juggernaut for South Florida annually,” the announcement said.
Residents have raised concerns regarding pollution, noise and traffic and are being backed by commissioners from council, that is due to vote on the strategies in the coming weeks.
Bratches has been concentrated on Miami as the ideal spot to attain F1’s ambitions of carrying a grand prix in what he calls”destination cities” in the usa.
According to BBC Sport the former ESPN executive will be to leave his function in F1 at the end of this calendar year.
F1 has one race in the USA, the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, that has been founded in 2012, but Liberty has been decided to expand the game in its home market.
