Ger Lyons feels the decision after this month, to stick at Newmarket will be the one because of his unbeaten colt.
Lyons admitted the Goffs Vincent O’Brien National Stakes was something but decided to stick to his guns at the opinion that six furlongs is the distance for Siskin race.
The Middle Park gives the chance to shoot his 100 per cent record and also follow his Group One success in the Keeneland Phoenix Stakes up to Siskin.
“It was totally my call,” that the County Meath handler told Racing TV.
“He even did a snap over seven – he has conduct twice and won four times around six, including a Group One, and for me he’s undoubtedly the top over six in the moment.
“I mentioned to Colin (Keane), I believe it was a week past Saturday, we would breeze him . He worked nicely, however it was clear to me going seven wasn’t the perfect thing to do. Why go at the time when he’s definitely the best around at six past six.
“If there was not the Middle Park in two weeks’ time I would have become (from the National Stakes). We weren’t running. There is a choice in 2 weeks’ time and it is a Group One.
“I must place my horse where he could win his race.
“I’m not saying he could not have won (the National Stakes). My target was the Middle Park.
“I’d really like to run in the Vincent O’Brien (National Stakes). It is here on my door step, however the optimum target is that your Middle Park and if he was breezed by us said,’correct my head is composed’.
“I made one phone call to say in my view this horse must go to the Middle Park. ‘Right – amazing, perfect, great fortune’. I presumed that was easy.
“As we speak we are on target for the Middle Park. It’s a very long way, a fortnight is a long time for a racehorse, but touch wood this horse has not let us down and I am awaiting Newmarket.”
Lyons is enthusiastic about taking at Newmarket, headed by the striking Mums Tipple on resistance.
“He’s rated greater than minebut we’ve got a Group One from the bag and draw it on,” he explained.
